PMA releases Monthly Printing and Camera Trends Report through February

PMA, Jackson, Mich., released the Monthly Printing and Camera Trends Report covering highlights and overviews through February by PMA Marketing Research. The report covers digital print volume, digital printing share — detail, and digital printing share — channel trends. The report also includes data provided by NPD Group Inc. detailing overall camera sales, analog, one-time-use, and digital camera sales.

  The volume of prints made from digital-still camera images increased by 25 percent in February, according the report. Online ordering activity grew at a rate of 51 percent and printing volumes at retail minilabs and instant kiosks grew 20 percent and 35 percent, respectively.

  The retail channel accounted for a total of 48.8 percent of prints made in February 2008, with 14.9 percent of the prints made instantly by consumers on a kiosk. Another 23 percent of prints were sent from a kiosk/ordering station to a minilab for printing.

  Overall demand for film and digital cameras increased 16 percent in February. Digital camera sales have increased 17.3 percent, and sales of 35mm cameras declined 38.8 percent.
